I'm a ninja! --- (Ka-Pow!)

Today during service the building got really really really REALLY cold, so I tried to bury my face in my jacket sweater thing.

That was when turtles popped into my mind and how lucky they are to have a shell. It's like their house, sweater, and umbrella are all in one.

Lol

(you better believe I would be the best ninja turtle out there!)

P.S. Don't judge me!

You are what you.... write?

Do you know how to speak? I sure hope you do! But talking and writing are different things.....(Lol to the picture... and it really did make me lol....haha)

But have you ever spent time thinking on the importance of being at least an OKAY writer?

Today I was helping out somebody at school and this poor guy could not even write a proper email, he kept putting "am" instead of "I'm"makes me wonder what we are all learning in public high school.

That isn't my point though, I think It is crazy how the little things do matter. The way a sentence is phrased can make a difference.

For example:

  • Writing clear directions is crucial for people to understand them (like in medicine).

  • Being able to write a good proposal or scholarship essay could make the difference in whether you get the money or not.

  • The way you organize and write an email can affect that future employer or contact's impression of you.

  • For those that have been following my blogs, you have probably made assumptions of me because of my writing!

(Please don't think I am saying I am a great writer because I am one of those that is thankful for spellcheck... haha.)

Even in English classes teacher usually mention words with negative and positive connotations, and how they affect your writing. The words we choose to say and/or write adds a certain tone and feeling to that particular sentence we are saying/writing.

Reminds me of an essay I wrote that mentioned how language really does affect the way you think, quite interesting! (completely off topic lol )

That is all folks, just a thought like usual :D

Speachless

" For there is not a word in my tongue, but lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether."

Psalms 139:4

Basically, he knows.

You can run but you can't hide!

Two things you cannot hide from:

#1--GOD (duh)
To be more specific you cannot hide if you are chosen. If God hand picked YOU to serve him, you will never find your place anywhere else that is not at his side. You will NEVER EVER be satisfied with the happenings of this life.
"For many are called, but few are chosen"
Matthew 22:14
What catches my attention about being chosen is not necessarily the fact that we are hand picked (which IS amazing do not get me wrong), but what I am in awe about is the fact that no matter how far we tend to drift away from God or try to distance ourselves from him there is a higher force pulling us up. I remember a preacher once saying something like "When evil and sin is pulling me down, God is pulling me up".
Being chosen means that right before you fall off that cliff, a mighty hand pulls us up by our collar on to safety.
#2--LEADERSHIP
Let's face it, there are just individuals who have natural leadership qualities, and frankly they are hard to deny. How do you know if you posses these qualities?
Well here are a few points I have noticed.
  • A group of people will automatically chose you to do any sort of public speaking
  • Individuals often ask you for advise
  • You have a "take charge" attitude
  • You are often the one to step up if needed

and the most obvious

  • You have leadership roles!!

I am not so sure if I conveyed what I wanted to convey in this post, but this shall do.

These two things will be like a thorn in your foot if you do not fully develop them, and what better way to develop these than to combine them?

Mexican men on the corner

Two post's in one day! that is a record! ha!

And FYI most of those men are from Guatemala, not Mexico.

Anyhow,

For those who know me well, know that I do a good amount of volunteering and my main place is at the Hayward Day Labor Center.

So I decided to write about this wonderful Center and what they do.

First off for those who do not know what day laborers are, they are the men you often see on corners looking for jobs (unfortunately there is no nice way of putting it).

Although most people just see them as simply jobless men, they are more than this.

Did you know that these men often don't get payed for their work? They usually have no health insurance, do not know the language, are all alone with no families and are taken advantage of. They are basically they are just like you and me, talking walking human beings.

So, the Hayward Day Labor Center basically is a resource center fore these men. They offer legal services for them for several reasons, one of them being when they do not get payed (which happens often). They give the laborers free medical treatment and refer them to hospitals if needed, and they also have reoccurring workshops in order to increase the chances of them getting jobs.

It was not until recently that I noticed these workshops and events are not just to increase the amount of job offers they receive, but it is also a way of keeping them busy due to the fact that a lot of these men fall into depression or into drugs, because they are alone in a foreign country where they do not know the language, in a country where they are looked down upon.

You may be asking what do I do at the HDLC?

Phone bank, complete demand letters, put flyers in various neighborhoods, announce health vans and workshops, and the most recent addiction to my list is I will be helping in a "Coleccion"

So what is a "Coleccion"?

Basically it is a way to make the HDLC more Womanly friendly. You see, the center is mostly revolved around men and their needs, not much around women, and trust me there are many women with no jobs!

I am extremely excited in being part of the start of something! something to help someone!

Well this is a really really really long post..

BUT this is one of my passions....to represent the unrepresented

You're illegal? Then go to Mexico to see a doctor

24 year old Maria Sanchez was admitted at University of Texas Medical Branch's John Sealy Hospital due to a growing tumor along her spine.

Due to the tumor, Maria lost complete movement of her right hand and was under unbearable pain. Doctor's told her that although the tumor was not malignant she would eventually loose the abiliy to walk and would result in death.

She had been treated for six days, had gone through at least one medical procedure and had even signed the papers for the anesthesia that was going to be administered during her scheduled surgery, when the doctors discharged her unexpectedly.

The reason?

She was an illegal immigrant, and if that wasn't enough they told her to go to Mexico to get medical treatment.

Like the bible says:

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."
Matthew 24:12
Yup.

Here comes S.A.D everybody!

Y'all ready for S.A.D day?

What?! You don't know what S.A.D day is?

Well, Of course ya do.

Single awareness day aka Valentines day... hahahahahahaha we have a little inside joke at school ;)

So brace yourself, the DAY is coming.

Lol

Jen, and Diana this blog post is not for YOU!

How do you see yourself?

Have you ever felt down? how bout a little "blue" or a little disappointed in yourself?

If you are human (and I hope you are if you are reading this), then the probability of you answering yes to this question is extremely high.

Well my friend, try this.

"Learn to see yourself through the eyes of those who love you"

It's a simple concept that goes a long way. The reality is that we as human beings are our own worst judge, and we don't always see all the wonderful qualities we carry, that is until somebody points them out.

Think about it, if we are loved then that means we carry SOME good qualities right? Well, get the good and run with it! absorb as much positives from others as possible. Trust me, it works I I know from experience ;)

After all, how can we reach our full potential (or come close to it) if we don't love ourselves and what we do?

I have an even better proposition if you still seem to feel down. Try seeing yourself through other eyes, eyes that aren't like yours or mine. Try the eyes of the creator.

He said....

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

Jeremiah 29:11

"How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you. "

Psalm 139:17-18

Understandable right?

Well, Happy thinking :)

"We love him, because he first loved us"
1 John 4:19
